Ian Gardner is a Vice President in the Cleantech practice at Oracle Capital and has raised seed, early stage and growth capital for a broad variety of companies as well as participated in public offerings and PIPEs. His diverse background enables him to find creative solutions to financing issues that address stakeholder concerns for multiple constituents. Mr. Gardner’s experience includes independent private power (IPP) project development internationally in Asia, Latin America, Australia and Northern Europe. His management consulting focused on the energy and utilities sectors worldwide. He has entrepreneurial experience including successfully taking two companies from inception to financial exit, and public company experience as CEO.
Mr. Gardner holds a B.S. in Pre-Med from Davidson College in North Carolina and an MBA with a focus on technology and entrepreneurial studies from The Anderson School at UCLA. Mr. Gardner's early career included extensive international private power work on Duke Energy's development team, acquiring and building large scale generation and distribution projects in Latin America, Australia, China and Southeast Asia. Subsequently Mr. Gardner moved to California, where he was the lead analyst for the Boston Consulting Group's International Energy and Utilities practice group headquartered in San Francisco. For the next two years he lived and worked in Latin America, Europe and Australia on projects in the electric and natural gas industries. After completing his MBA from UCLA, Mr. Gardner’s focus shifted to technology and clean energy. He has led several startups raising over $20M in angel, early stage growth and public company (PIPE) funding. Two years of business planning and development work with The Esalen Institute in Big Sur rounded out a strong business background with broad exposure to sustainable technologies and construction as well the human development sector. In 2004 Mr. Gardner co-founded Lab4less, a specialized biotech equipment provider which he grew to 80% market share and sold in 2008 in a cash/debt deal to the largest industry competitor. In 2006 Mr. Gardner co-founded Helix Wind, Inc., a microwind turbine designer and manufacturer which developed a patented innovative VAWT design. Mr. Gardner served as CEO of the company until early 2010, taking it public in 2009, and setting up manufacturing in SE Asia and sales and distribution in over 25 countries worldwide. Mr. Gardner is a frequent speaker at cleantech energy events in the USA.
