David heads the Cleantech practice at Oracle Capital. Prior to joining the firm, David negotiated and structured dozens of private equity financings, from both within hedge fund buy-side as well as from the investment banking sell-side. The transactions ranged from private early-stage to NASDAQ-listed companies, with a focus on cleantech and international transactions (Europe and Asia).
David currently serves on board of Cleantech trade groups and on the advisory counsel of CleanVenture, a non-profit San Diego-based Cleantech business incubator. Between 2004 and 2008, he served as a Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance at Yorkville Advisors, which then managed a PIPE hedge fund with assets of over $1 billion. As a senior banker, David negotiated and structured several milestone transactions for the fund in China and in the domestic cleantech sector. From, 2000 to 2007, he was an advisor to an environmental hedge fund, with a strict value strategy, managed by Summit Global Management. From 1999 to 2004, he was the principal at Early Capital, a venture capital and investment banking advisory firm, where he was responsible for arranging and structuring financings from high tech corporate investors. Concurrently, between 2000 and 2003, David served on the review board of CalTIP and CCAT, participating in the selection of companies for government grant programs.
Formerly, David worked in Astrophysics (chemical composition of diffuse plasma QSO absorbers) and Materials Science (YBCO precursor alloys) for four years, funded respectively by NASA and DOE. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of California San Diego. David grew up and was educated in Europe and speaks fluent Spanish. Since 2007, David serves as a director, pro bono, for Sea Spray Research Foundation, a broad non-profit climate science research effort focused at evaluating feasibility and safety of seawater aerosol-based geoengineering. He has been a guest speaker at European and Asian investment banking conferences, as well as US-based private equity, high technology and Cleantech conferences.
